Ar.Murali Murugan, the Principal Architect of Murali Architects, a leading architecture firm in Chennai which was set up in the year 1990. He graduated his Bachelors in Architecture from School of Architecture and Planning, Anna university and his Masters at McGill University, Canada. He has dedicated “30” years of his career on deliberating through his design philosophy that focuses on uniting people through architecture.
Murali Architects creates a versatile body of work ranging from architecture and interiors, of various typologies such as Residences, Corporate offices, Institutional, Retail & Hospitality buildings. Murali Architects’ distinct style of residential architecture reinterprets traditional architecture revamping it into our contemporary world by synthesizing the past and the future with the present. The firm explores with design solutions that are contextual, creating unique typologies of spaces that revolutionize the way they are experienced, and this manifests the essence of the firm’s design philosophy.
The firm has been awarded the ’Excellence in Residential Architectural Design’ in the year 2015 presented by the Chief guest Honourable Governor of Tamil Nadu Dr.K.S Rosaiah at Kattumanatholil Awards. The firm also won the “National Level for Excellence in Architecture” under the ‘Commercial category’ of Indian Institute of Architects in the year 2016 for the project – “Highway Restaurant -Manoj Bhavan”. They won the Indian Institute of Interior Designers in the year 2018 – Zonal winners Award for the design of Hearing Aid Centre at Chennai. Selected by the Indian Institute of Architects as “The honorable Member” for services rendered for the Indian Institute of Architects – Tamilnadu Chapter in the year of 2016. The Millennial Residence was recognized at a national level. One of the most prestigious projects currently handled by the firm is the Memorial for Late Former Chief Minister Selvi Dr.J.Jayalalitha, which has won the All India Design Competition conducted by Tamil Nadu Government.
Besides his practice he has also served as a Visiting faculty at some of the leading institutions in Tamil Nadu like The School of Architecture and Planning, Anna University, Measi Academy of Architecture, Sathyabama University, S.R.M. University, Thiyagaraja College of Engineering, and many others. He has written more than 60 articles in “The Hindu” newspaper regarding architecture and interiors.
